pause with Rosemary Gladstar & Emily Ruff

and special guest Kate Clearlight

“…This is the solstice, the still point of the sun, its cusp and midnight, the year’s threshold and unlocking, where the past lets go and becomes the future.” — Margaret Atwood

The Longest Night of the Year

The Winter Solstice marks the darkest night - when the sun reaches its lowest point and darkness holds us longest. In our culture of perpetual brightness and relentless productivity, we've forgotten how to honor the dark. We push through December in a frenzy of shopping, celebrating, and forcing cheer, often arriving at the year's threshold exhausted, disconnected, and longing for something we can't quite name.

But there's another way.

For thousands of years, humans have gathered on this longest night to honor what the darkness teaches: that rest is sacred, that release is necessary, that the light always returns - but only after we've allowed ourselves to fully enter the dark.

An Invitation to Pause

Join herbalists Rosemary Gladstar and Emily Ruff for a live Winter Solstice Ceremony on Friday December 19th at 7 pm Eastern Time as we create sacred space together - a refuge of stillness in the midst of the holiday rush.

This is not another thing to add to your December to-do list. This is permission to stop. To breathe. To honor all that 2025 has been - the grief and the joy, the losses and the lessons, the darkness and the emerging light.

Whether you've been carrying heaviness that needs witnessing, seeking quiet in the chaos, or simply wanting to mark this powerful threshold with intention - you belong here.

What We'll Share Together

In this 60-minute live ceremony, we'll gather in the dark of the year to:

Honor the Darkness We'll acknowledge what this year has asked of us, what we've carried, and what we're ready to release. The solstice invites us to grieve what needs grieving, to let go of what we've outgrown, and to compost the year's challenges into wisdom for what's ahead.

Tend the Inner Light Even in our darkest moments, there is light within us. We'll explore herbal allies and practices for tending that inner flame through winter's introspective season - not forcing brightness, but nurturing the quiet glow that sustains us.

Welcome the Returning Sun The solstice is a turning point. After this night, the light begins its slow return. We'll set intentions for the returning sun - not resolutions that demand perfection, but seeds planted in winter darkness that will germinate when they're ready.

Connect with Herbal Wisdom Rosemary and Emily will share herbal allies for winter wellness, grief support, and inner resilience - plants that help us navigate the dark season with more grace and groundedness.

Celebrate Together Though we'll be scattered across time zones and geographies, we'll be united in this threshold moment. There's profound medicine in gathering with intention, in knowing you're not alone in the darkness.

“In the depth of winter, I find within me an invincible summer.” — Albert Camus
